The Sound of Being Seen – Safe Space for all Artists in the Room w/Kristin Engineer
May 3 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm PDT
Among a myriad of articles reporting on statistics studies of the music industry that you can find on the web, this 2022 Billboard article states, “…women [hold] just 3.9% of all producing positions across the songs on the 2021 Hot 100 Year End Chart. This number was down from a seven-year high point of 5% in 2019…Only 10 producers across the decade-spanning sample were women of color.”
We’ve made leaps and bounds when it comes to inclusion in the music industry over the decades, but some may be surprised by how far we still have to go. When you look at the stats, minority groups are still vastly underrepresented in almost every area of the field. Dr. Stacy Smith of the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative comments on the issue, “We know there are talented women from all backgrounds who are not getting access, opportunity, or credit for their work in this arena.”
We are thrilled to have Kristin Engineer of MotoGirl Music, a pop production house based in Los Angeles, speak with us about ways to create safe space and allow for all voices at the table when working collaboratively with women and underrepresented populations. All artists are welcome to join the conversation regardless of how you identify. Kristin will provide tips to build confidence in any environment in the music industry with a focus on the sync world. Kristin Engineer is the owner and executive producer of MGM, managing projects with a team primarily of women producers, artists, and creatives. MotoGirl Music is an inclusive safe space for LBGT+, non-binary, and BIPOC creators.
